Home-Start Havant - Support for Families

Home-Start in Havant is a charity providing one-to-one volunteer support to vulnerable families with children under five, in their own homes.

Home-Start supports and provides friendship to any parent of under-fives who live in the Havant Borough whose problems are getting them down, feels anxious, frustrated, confused, lonely or just plain fed up.  They can make direct contact or, with their agreement, can be referred by a Health Visitor, Social or Community Worker, Doctor, Church or others.

Home-Start helps families develop self confidence and become independent by:

• offering support, friendship and practical assistance to families with children under five
• being available to families who are experiencing frustrations or difficulties
• visiting families in their own homes, where the problems exist and the individual's identity can be respected
• encouraging parents' strengths and emotional well-being in order that these may be transmitted to their children
• Reassuring parents that difficulties bringing up their children are not unusual and emphasising the pleasures of family life
• encouraging families to widen their network of relationships
• providing community support and ensuring affective access to other services.

Volunteers...

At Home-Start volunteers are parents themselves.  They come from a variety of backgrounds and age ranges.  Any parent who would like to be a volunteer should contact the Co-ordinators on 023 9224 1234.

Home-Start received some statutory funding but is heavily dependent upon it's own fund raising efforts. 

Call the office between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.  An answer phone service is available at other times, but not at weekends.
