Woman knocked unconscious in robbery

Woman knocked unconscious in robbery

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a woman was knocked unconscious during a violent robbery in Neasden.

She had been walking through St Mary's graveyard on her way to work at 6.25am on 13 July when a man tried to grab her handbag.

The suspect dragged her down the alleyway after she screamed for help before stamping on her and running off with the bag.

Police say the woman was still unconscious when they arrived and needed hospital treatment for a concussion, cuts and bruises.

Detective Constable Dax Hollick said: "This occurred at the early part of the morning rush hour, and there may have been commuters walking the same route towards the station who may have seen or heard the victim in distress, or the suspect running away with the handbag.

"I would like to thank the two passers-by who rushed to the victim's aid, one of whom remained with her up until she was taken to hospital - their actions not only scared the suspect off, but also potentially saved the victim from suffering further injury."

Police believe market traders who were setting up their stalls at the bottom of Church Road may have information that could be useful to them.

The suspect is described as black, in his twenties, stocky, between 5ft 6 and 6ft tall and wearing dark baggy clothing.

The bag that was taken from the victim is a plain burgundy shoulder bag with one strap.
