An Edgware primary school has been singled out by Ofsted as a national example of best practice for the way it works with parents.
The education watchdog has praised Stag Lane Infant and Nursery School for breaking down the barriers between home life and time at school.
The school's unique approach includes an introductory home visit by teachers to find out more about each child, which helps them to ensure new pupils settle at the school.
Regular meetings are held with parents to discuss their child's progress, with mums and dads also encouraged to take part in ‘learning sessions' to experience what lessons are like.
"Our overarching aim is to have knowledgeable and interested parents who have a good relationship with the school," said head teacher Nina Will.
"We've found our approach to be really effective and I'm extremely pleased that Ofsted have used our school as an example of good practice in this area."
As well as updating parents on their child's progress, the school has also devised questionnaires for pupils to fill in.
The questionnaires check what pupils have enjoyed learning about as well as collecting other information that staff should be aware of.
Councillor Brian Gate, portfolio holder for schools and colleges, said: "To be recognised as a national example of good practice is an immense achievement for Stag Lane.
"On an individual level, when parents are more involved from an early age, children benefit from better support at home that encourages them to excel in the classroom."
