Card Scanning Device Found On Tewkesbury Cash Point

Keep your PIN safe and check the cash point, that's the message from Tewkesbury Police.

The advice comes after a scanning device was found on a Lloyds TSB cash point in their foyer on the High Street in Tewkesbury yesterday, Wednesday January 20.

If you used the cash point between 5pm on Tuesday and 10.30am yesterday it is advised that you check your bank statements and contact your own bank as soon as possible to make sure your details have not been copied and used.

Police are also encouraging shoppers to follow some key pieces of advice when using cash machines:

  • Put your personal safety first. Be aware of others around you and if someone is behaving suspiciously cancel the transaction and use a different machine.
  • If you notice anything unusual about the cash machine, or there are signs of tampering, do not use it and report it to the bank or the Police as soon as possible.
  • Do not accept advice about using the cash point from seemingly well-meaning strangers and never allow yourself to be distracted.
  • Once you have completed a transaction put your money and card away before leaving the cash machine.
  • If the cash machine does not return your card, report its loss immediately to your card company.

Officers seized the device and an investigation into who placed the item on the cash point has started.
