Forces Joined
Community police officers, community wardens, youth workers, housing staff from the council and Barrhead Housing Association, community safety staff, council cleansing and Strathclyde Fire & rescue officers, joined forces to put Barrhead's Dunterlie area under the spotlight from Monday 12 to Sunday 18 October.
The joint crackdown against anti-social behaviour saw warden foot patrols on the streets from 10.00 am to midnight as well increased police foot patrols to cut crime and the fear of crime and to reassure the public.
East Renfrewshire Council's community safety convener Councillor Mary Montague said: "The school October break is an ideal time to bring all the agencies together to boost community safety in Dunterlie's a time when lots of children and young people are about the area and the increased officer presence reassures youngsters legitimately enjoying their holiday while acting as a deterrent to that small minority which would like to make others feel unsafe or be unsafe. The joint patrols also reassure residents that Dunterlie is an area where community safety is our priority."
Inspector Campbell Crawford, who's in charge of community policing in East Renfrewshire said: "We're very pleased to join community safety partners from the council and other agencies in reducing crime and the fear of crime in Dunterlie. This initiative shows that we work together for the good of the community and will reassure residents that we mean business when it comes to dealing with anti-social behaviour."
