Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat volunteers have had another record-breaking year at their annual Halloween Spooky Walks, however they were called out just hours later on a rescue mission.
The annual Spooky Walks, now in their seventh year, were the most spectacular on record, with a record-breaking £2,463 raised for RNLI funds and new features such as a maze and spooky stories. The money raised will be spent equipping the station with new lifejackets, due on station in January 2012.
Twenty spooky walks took place over three nights with nearly 400 people taken on tours of Kinghorn's dark past.
Lifeboat helmsman Keith Hay continues, "We have been overwhelmed with the success of the Spooky Walks this year. We have raised another record sum, and this year the money will be spent on new lifejackets for the station.
"These new lifejackets have been designed for the RNLI, and will provide our volunteer crews with the best equipment to keep them safe and help them carry out their lifesaving work.
"I would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who supported us, as well as all the lifeboat crew, fundraisers and friends who helped in the preparation and running of this very successful event. We will now start planning for next year's walks, to make them even better!"
The lifeboat crew had little rest though; the lifeboat was called out just after 5am on Sunday morning to assist with an incident near Leith docks, where a distressed male was spotted on the western breakwater. The lifeboat stood by for around an hour, until the person was taken into the care of the police.
The lifeboat fundraising committee are now making preparations for a Christmas Shopping event, which is being hosted by the Kingswood Hotel, on Friday 11th November. Proceeds from this event will also go towards the new lifejackets, which are to cost around £4000. Tickets for the event are available from the Kingswood Hotel, Kinghorn Community centre and the Dragon's Den.
