Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat volunteers were called into action on Saturday afternoon to evacuate a woman from Inchcolm Island in the Firth of Forth.
Kinghorn lifeboat was launched at 2.38pm after a woman took ill during a day trip to Inchcolm Island. The lifeboat and a Royal Navy rescue helicopter from Prestwick were tasked with evacuating the woman off the Island.
The lifeboat arrived at the Island just 12 minutes after launch where they assessed the casualty before deciding that an airlift would be most appropriate due to her location and condition. The woman was understood to be 32 years old.
Helmsman Billy McAndrew said, "The casualty was sitting in a cottage on the Island when we arrived after she took ill on a day trip. She was suffering from severe back pain.
"We decided that due to her location that evacuation by helicopter would be best. We assessed and made her comfortable until the rescue helicopter arrived 20 minutes later.
"The helicopter medic administered pain relief before the casualty was flown to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary."
The lifeboat then returned to station. Also on board were crewmembers Joanne Wibberley, Mark Brown and Neil Martin. Tractor driver Hayley Morrison launched the lifeboat.
