Fife News: Four People in Court Following Lochgelly Drugs Operations - 23rd June 2009

FOUR people are due to appear in court in connection with drugs offences as part of a continuing initiative by community police officers in Cowdenbeath.

Officers seized a total of £500 of heroin, amphetamine and diazepam from two houses in Lochgelly in separate operations over the past week.

Three women aged 29, 27 and 24 and a 29 year-old man are due to appear in Dunfermline Sheriff Court in connection with the seizures.

Fife Constabulary recorded its biggest-ever seizure of drugs at the weekend when it netted more than £1million of heroin and amphetamine.

Cowdenbeath's Sergeant Derek Paxton said while the Force was targeting the larger dealers, community officers were committed to disrupting the supply of drugs on their doorstep. "Reducing the harm that illegal drugs cause to both individuals and their communities is one of the main objectives of our Policing Plan.

"These successful drugs operations are the latest in a series recently undertaken in the Cowdenbeath policing area. I believe this is having a significant impact on the individuals involved, whether they are dealers or users of illegal substances.

"Information from the public remains vital in allowing us to successfully target the problem in our communities and I urge anyone with that information to pass it on so that we can act on it."
