Fife News : Building contractor appointed for Carnegie Leisure Centre refurbishment

The refurbishment of Dunfermline's Carnegie Leisure Centre is a step closer with the main building contractor starting work on site. Barr Limited have been appointed as the main building contractor for the refurbishment project which will deliver an enhanced £17 million state of the art leisure facility in Dunfermline's town centre.
The building closed at the end of last year in order to prepare the site and extensive demolition work started in February this year.
Councillor Brian Goodall, Chair of Fife Council's Housing & Communities Committee said: "I am delighted at the appointment of Barr Limited who has a wealth of experience in this field and I am confident in their ability to assist in transforming this facility into a flagship leisure centre. "In total, the Council are investing over £50 million in leisure facilities in Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes proving their commitment to deliver on one of their ‘Big 8' priorities of improving sport, leisure and cultural opportunities in Fife."
Fife Councils' Asset and Facilities Management Services are providing the architectural services with Turner Townsend Project Management managing the project to refurbish and enhance the facility. Carnegie Leisure Centre will be transformed both internally and externally, whilst retaining the historic fabric of the building through a design that promotes sustainability.
