Dunfermline and West Fife MP Willie Rennie has expressed his anger at the announcement that the long-anticipated inquiry into the Iraq war will be held in secret.
In a statement to the House of Commons, the Prime Minister also told MPs that he did not expect the inquiry committee, chaired by Sir John Chilcot, who also sat on the Butler Inquiry into the intelligence on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, to report before the next election.
Commenting, Willie Rennie said:
‘The decision to hold this inquiry in secret is a betrayal of all those who lost loved ones as a result of the Government's decision to prosecute an illegal war.
‘I am angry that despite widespread support for a fully transparent investigation of events in Iraq, the Prime Minister has once again chosen to ignore the wishes of the British public'.
