Community day in Portchester is a great success
On Saturday, August 7, an information and fun day was held at Portchester shopping precinct, between 10am and 4pm.
The event was organised by the local police Safer Neighbourhoods Team, assisted by staff from Portchester Community centre. The day was aimed at giving the local community the opportunity to engage with local organisations and representatives.
In attendance were the whole of the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team, Fareham Borough Council, Portchester community association, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service - and many others, all offering free information and advice.
There was also live music and entertainment provided by the Hampshire Constabulary male voice choir, a local dance group and a navy marching band. Local children had the chance to get their faces painted, and clamber all over the emergency service vehicles that were present.
All funds raised went to the community's Christmas tree fund.
PCSO Kim Mitchell, a member of the Portchester Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: "This was a great event for us with a great turn out. Even the weather was kind to us - for most of the day! The event encouraged engagement with the police, local council and other agencies. We hope that this will have lasting effects on the community, bringing them closer together".
