Police work with Hamble Harbour Master following theft of a vessel
Police are working closely with the Harbour Master at Hamble to investigate the theft of a rigid inflatable boat, which was moored at Botley Mills, on Sunday, January 31.
The vessel was moored at 12.45pm, when the owner returned at approximately 1.30pm it was missing. The owner, a man in his 40s from Romsey, contacted the Harbour Master and police.
Details of the vessel were circulated among harbour patrol vessels and the police marine unit.
A short time later the Rib was discovered by a Harbour Master patrol vessel in Warsash, some property left inside by the owner remains missing.
Hampshire County Council's Marine Director, David Evans, said: "I would like to praise the work of vigilant patrol officers who acted quickly in drawing attention of the vessel to the police which aided a speedy arrest. This is an excellent example of why we have patrol officers on the river seven days a week."
Police continue to investigate the theft and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the Rib being taken or noticed suspicious activity to contact them.
