Appeal for taxi driver to come forward as police continue to appeal for information about missing woman
Police are continuing to appeal for information as to the whereabouts of Frances Clark and would like to speak to a taxi driver who may have driven her from Basingstoke to Winchester.
Frances, who also uses the surnames Phillips, Laing and Hockley, was last seen by her family on Sunday, May 1, 2011 in Basingstoke, and has not been in contact with them since.
The 48-year-old is known to stay at night shelters and hostels across the South and it is not unusual for her not to contact her family for months at a time.
However, her family became increasingly concerned that they hadn’t heard from her and she was reported as missing in October last year.
She was last seen getting into a taxi in Penny Black Lane, Basingstoke, at about 8.30pm on May 1, 2011. It is believed she may have been dropped off in Winchester, possibly in the St Cross area of the city. It is believed the taxi driver who picked her up was a woman from a Basingstoke taxi company.
Frances was last seen wearing a long cream or beige coat and looked gaunt. She was carrying her belongings in a white carrier bag. It is believed she may have cut her hair short and dyed it a bright colour.
Detective Constable Claire Chandler said: “Frances has not been seen by her family for some time now and they are understandably worried about her.
“I would really like to speak to the taxi driver who picked Frances up that day as she may have information which could help us find Frances and make sure she’s ok.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen her or knows where she is to contact us. I would also appeal directly to Frances to call us and let us know she’s ok.”
Anyone with any information about where she might be is asked to contact Basingstoke police station on 101.
