HMIE Give Carronshore Primary the Thumbs Up

Confident, happy and motivated children and an improving trend in attainment in writing have been highlighted as strengths during a recent inspection by HMIe.

The Inspectors visited the school earlier this year and in all measures used to judge how well the school is performing, Carronshore Primary School and Nursery Class was found to be consistently very good and good across all eight areas of learning and teaching.

The school has a number of strengths which include:

Children's high quality artwork, displayed throughout the school
Teamwork amongst all staff in taking forward school improvements.
Councillor Dr Alex Waddell, Convener of the Education Committee said: "The school is to be congratulated for the hard work and commitment it has made to provide top quality learning opportunities for all pupils.

"Both the nursery and school are doing very well and marks another excellent performance by one of Falkirk Council's schools."

In the primary classes, overall attainment is very good with high standards, most children achieve appropriate levels in mathematics and nearly all children achieve appropriate levels in reading, writing, listening and talking - though many are achieving higher levels of attainment in many subjects.

The local community is actively involved in supporting the school including Parents are Carronshore Together, Parent Council and families. A group of ‘granny helpers' also help out in the school every week!

According to HMIe ‘the school is well placed to build on its strengths and continue to improve learning and achievement for all.'

There will be no further HMIe visits in connection with this inspection.

The inspection was carried out in June 2010 at which time the roll was 353, including 82 in the nursery school.
