Influenza A H1N1 update
Scotland has 72 new laboratory confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1) today, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 922.
The latest cases are in: Greater Glasgow and Clyde (61), Lanarkshire (3), Forth Valley (2), Grampian (2), Tayside (2), Lothian (1) and Highland (1).
Of the latest confirmed cases five are travel-related while 67 are not related to travel.
There are currently four people being treated in hospital for the influenza A (H1N1) virus.
Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: "The increase in the number of confirmed cases of H1N1 in Scotland is not unexpected, the pattern being consistent with what has been seen in other areas and other countries.
"The containment strategy adopted during the early stages of the outbreak has, we believe, played a key role in helping to limit the spread of H1N1.
"We will, as the outbreak develops through community transmission, perhaps need to move towards a flexible model of treatment which reflects the needs of individual regions.
"But that is not to say that the simplest of safeguards, such as regular handwashing and single-use and proper disposal of tissues, are no longer applicable. These simple frontline measures, which both adults and children can easily use, are still crucial in helping limit the spread of H1N1."
