Have you got a small electrical that's lost its spark?

7th January 10

Have you got any small electrical items lying around that are broken or just a bit past their prime?

Whether it's old mobile phones in a drawer, childrens' toys in a cupboard or a broken kettle gathering dust in the loft, sometimes it's hard to part with things that seem too valuable to throw away.

The good news is they don't have to go to waste, because they can be recycled. Simply drop them off at your local recycling centre.

Derbyshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Recycling and Technology John Allsop said: "Many of us will have received new phones, DVD players and other electrical items over the Christmas period.

"Instead of just throwing away old electrical goods, why not take them to your local recycling centre next time you go."

Derbyshire County Council runs eight household waste recycling centres across the county. You can dispose of a wide range of household items for free at:

  • Melandra Road in Glossop SK13 6JQ

  • Sheffield Road in Stonegravels near Chesterfield S41 7IF

  • Taylor Lane in Loscoe near Heanor DE75 7TA

  • Manners Industrial Estate in Ilkeston DE7 8EF

  • Main Street in Newhall near Swadlincote DE11 0TP

  • Mayfield Road in Ashbourne DE6 2BN

  • Buttermilk Lane in Bolsover S44 6AE

  • Waterswallows Road in Buxton SK17 7JB

Most types of household waste are accepted at our centres including furniture, electrical appliances, fridges and freezers, green garden waste, carpets, paper waste, glass containers and items from car maintenance and small DIY jobs.

Hardcore and soil is only accepted in small bagged up amounts of not more than 50Kg (two sacks maximum), one visit per week and up to four car tyres are accepted.

All our centres are open from 8.30am to 6pm, seven days a week except on Christmas day, Boxing day and New Years day.
