Funding boost will get communities on the move

Funding boost will get communities on the move

Over £37,000 of funding is set to get communities on the move as Derbyshire County Council gives a boost to local transport projects across the county.

The money, from the Accessibility Partnership Development Fund, will help 27 projects across Derbyshire.

These range from buying a community mini bus to providing a mobile internet service for isolated, rural areas.

The funding will give local people more opportunities to take part in employment, shopping, health and community activities.

Projects include:

  • A community minibus in Stanley Common helping local people to take part in community activities.

  • A new community transport service linking rural South Derbyshire villages with Ashbourne

  • Improvements to a community transport vehicle in Chesterfield making it easier for everyone to use

  • An electronic touch screen notice board, being put up at New Mills Volunteer Centre

  • An E-bus providing mobile broadband to residents living in remote and isolated locations of the High Peak.

Cllr Chris Jackson, Derbyshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport said:
"We know that lack of suitable transport can be a big barrier for people who want to take part in social activities or simply make use of local services.

"There are many worthwhile projects across the county and this funding boost will enable them to help people who would otherwise feel isolated."

The funding has been co-ordinated by the three local Accessibility Partnerships managed by Derbyshire County Council.

These are the Derbyshire Dales and High Peak Accessibility partnership, North East Derbyshire Accessibility partnership and the South East Derbyshire Accessibility partnership.
