Take some kitchen scraps, mix in garden cuttings, add some cardboard and what do you get....compost.
Derbyshire County Council's Chairman Councillor Robin Baldry and Councillor John Allsop, cabinet member for technology and recycling, get stuck in at the official opening of the county council's first enclosed composting facility on Monday.
Each year the new £3.25 million centre on Waterswallows Road, Buxton, will deal with more than 10,000 tonnes of compostable waste from 30,000 homes in the High Peak.
Local residents simply put compostable waste into their green-lidded bin and leave it out for collection by High Peak Borough Council ready to be taken to the centre and turned into compost.
Kitchen scraps ranging from meat and fish and fruit and vegetables to tea bags and coffee grounds, bread, cakes and pastries can all be added to the bin.
Rice, pasta, beans and dairy products such as eggs and cheese can also be included as well as cardboard and garden cuttings and clippings.
For full details of what can be put in the green-lidded bin visit www.highpeak.gov.uk/environment/foodwaste.asp (opens in a new window)
