Derbyshire County Council is spending £6 million to repair damage caused by extreme winter weather on roads across the county. Funding has been earmarked to fix potholes and other damage caused by severe winter conditions earlier this year and before Christmas.
The county council carried out a Derbyshire-wide inspection of 3,170 miles of roads to survey the damage and repairs have now started.
Councillor Chris Jackson, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: "We've been repairing dangerous potholes and other problems on our roads as soon we've been made aware of them.
"Winter weather hit our roads hard but we're committed to improving them.
"We assessed the damage, we got the relevant funding in place and we started the repairs.
"There's no quick fix - it's going to take some time to get the network up to standard but we'll be doing all we can to get our roads back into a good state of repair."
Around £1m has already been spent on repairing damage caused on Derbyshire's roads this winter.
Repairs are expected to be ongoing throughout the year.
The county council is funding the work from various highways and transport budgets.
