ShelterBox delivers disaster relief including lifesaving supplies and emergency shelter to families around the world who have been affected by disasters from our UK base.

Headquartered in Cornwall, UK, ShelterBox is now firmly established as the prime disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter for disaster relief around the world.

We are a registered charity and rely on donations from our supporters and the generous public around the UK to maintain our important and invaluable work.

Each of our shelter boxes is tailor made to suit the situation, but it typically contains a disaster relief tent, water storage, water purification equipment, blankets, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, a cooking stove as well as a children’s activity kit and other essential items for use in disaster relief.

In the event of a humanitarian emergency, we provide emergency shelter and lifesaving provisions for people who have affected by disasters and we aim to get disaster relief to them as quickly as we possibly can.

Unfortunately, every year sees many thousands of people losing everything when a disaster strikes, and every day following on from a catastrophic event, we aim to provide them with emergency relief. ShelterBox, was established by Tom Henderson OBE, who identified that normal humanitarian response was in the form of food and medicine with little or no provision for shelter that would protect families and now, ShelterBox has filled this need as one of the prime charities to provide emergency shelter.

Ever since 2000, ShelterBox has delivered relief to many disasters including hurricanes; volcano eruptions, tsunamis and many other situations where there has been a humanitarian need from our UK base.

Our Shelter Boxes are delivered by a highly trained team of volunteers who are located across Cornwall, the UK and round the world. Our team of men and women come from all walks of life and they give their time freely to aid those whose lives have been torn apart through no fault of their own. And it is their dedication, passion and belief that enables us to provide disaster relief around the world from our UK base.

Our work is funded completely by donations made to us by the very generous people of Cornwall and those across the UK who help to raise around half of our funding, with the rest being provided by our affiliates around the world.
