Cornwall Antique Dealers, with shipping in the UK, we are specialist dealers who restore and sell genuine antique pine furniture throughout the UK and specialise in the restoration and sale of Antique Pine furniture from our shop in Cornwall. S&H Antique Dealers specialise in Pine Furniture and was established in the UK in 1972 and has concentrated on the restoration of antique pine furniture from Wales, England and some fine examples of Continental pine furniture. We are experienced dealers and source our stock from a wide area and our ranges included fine examples of pine furniture from periods that span Georgian, Victorian through to Edwardian and some from the 1920’s.
We can finish pieces by waxing that lifts the grain or they can be painted. Indeed, some pieces were originally painted and today, the most popular colours include creams, off-whites and milk green. We can also add ageing effects where required.
When restoring a piece, we adopt a sympathetic approach that ensures the full beauty is returned so that it may “live” again and provide many further years of enjoyment and take pride of place wherever it is located. We restore each piece to the highest standard using both traditional materials and methods ensuring we achieve a restoration that is sympathetic to the original piece.
Our repair and restoration of antique pine furniture will include everything necessary to ensure a piece is returned to its former glory including the replacement of damaged veneer, strengthening of joints or joint replacement using new components. We will also repair scratches, dents and other surface blemishes where possible.
Pieces from the Georgian period embraced three distinct periods of evolution from the Palladian through to the early and late Georgian periods with the styles becoming lighter.
Pieces from the Victorian period were more imposing and featured lots of curves, elaborate decoration and had a glossy finish. Early pieces featured elements drawn from the Regency and William IV period. Carvings included Gothic and medieval images with dark oak and mahogany being extremely popular. Later in the period, Victorian Arts and Crafts pieces became popular that were made by hand in a farmhouse/country style providing a simple and practical design.
Edwardian furniture moved from the heaviness and darker colours of the Victorian era making way for lighter more informal pieces in pastel colours. Typically, Edwardians used reproductions of older styles that were manufactured using machinery with the design being adapted to suit the modern living style and to increase their comfort.
In the 1920’s modernism was in vogue with the Art Deco movement becoming the “new style.” This featured angular and geometric shapes that included exotic touches.
