The Future of Chesterfield Market Hall
Residents encouraged to comment on future changes to Chesterfield Indoor Market Hall.
Chesterfield people are to be given a vital role in shaping the future of the Market Hall on Thursday 14th January.
Chesterfield Borough Council has prepared a feasibility study for the refurbishment and redevelopment of the indoor Market Hall in Chesterfield town centre to ensure that the building continues to contribute as much as possible to the future of the town centre. It proposes improved facilities for the indoor market, new offices and refurbishments to the Assembly Rooms, as well as new toilets and better access for all sections of the community.
People will be able to find out more and register their views from Thursday (January 14) to Saturday (January 15) during a public exhibition in The Pavements Shopping Centre (Unit 18, between The Fragrance Shop and Watson and Jenkins Opticians) from 10am to 4pm (Thursday and Friday) and 10am to 2pm (Saturday). The display will then be moved to the Tourist Information Centre for a one week period.
Councillor Ray Russell, Leader of the Council said: ‘The Market Hall is a jewel in the crown of Chesterfield. It is at the centre of one of the most attractive market places in the country and is an iconic building. But it must be fit for the future and needs investment to bring it up to date, improve the indoor market and make it more accessible for users. We want the views of our residents and traders on its future and invite all those interested to get along to the exhibition.'
The study is being funded by the Borough Council, East Midlands Development Agency and Derbyshire Economic Partnership, which have together appointed independent consultants Taylor Young, MACE and Gifford to help prepare the new plans for the market hall.
