Partners get off their mark for Race for Life

Partners get off their mark for Race for Life

Chesterfield Borough Council and Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust (PCT) are giving their full support to this year's Race for Life, in aid of Cancer Research UK.  The two partners played a large part in getting Chesterfield's first Race for Life off to a great start in 2009 which raised just under £190k for the cancer charity.

The Council and the PCT will help promote and organise the event which takes place on the 11th of July.  Owing to such huge demand in 2009 there will be two race events, one at 10.30am and a second at 2.30pm.

The Mayoress of Chesterfield, Inger Kitch will be joined by Julie Yapp, Cancer Screening Coordinator for Derbyshire County PCT, and Helen Webster, Chesterfield Race for Life event organiser, when they officially launch the event in Chesterfield town centre on Friday 12th February.

Commenting on the Race for Life, the Mayoress said: "I was extremely privileged to start the event last year and was amazed by the sea of pink ladies all playing their part to raise funds for such a worthwhile charity.  We're aiming to have 4,500 women take part this year to raise £213,000 to help beat cancer."

Julie Yapp, Cancer Screening Coordinator for Derbyshire County PCT, said: "We are delighted to be supporting and working with Cancer Research UK and Chesterfield Borough Council in staging the 2010 Chesterfield Race for Life events. This race does so much to raise the awareness of cancer and encourages people to take part in physical activity to improve their health."

Chesterfield's Race for Life will be full of amazing moments for everyone as women of all ages and fitness abilities join together to walk, jog or run 5k to help beat cancer.  The event will once again start at Chesterfield Town Hall and will have a new route finishing at Queen's Park.

Women in Chesterfield can enter Cancer Research UK's Race for Life at www.raceforlife.org or by calling 0871 641 1111.
