Enter the Dragon’s Den and work for yourself
Chesterfield residents with long-term health problems and disabilities can find out how self-employment can be an alternative to claiming benefits. Special sessions will take place on 1 July at Staveley Hall and on 2 July at St Augustine's Church, Birdholme.
These enterprise workshops are part of the ‘Work for Yourself' programme funded by Chesterfield Borough Council and delivered by Disability Dynamics Ltd. Everyone joining the programme has the support of their own Business Adviser and a range of information packs specially designed for this project. Presenter and Business Adviser John Mitchell said: "We can help with everything from developing the idea and market research to finding funding and promoting the enterprise. And support continues after the business has started as the first months can be critical."
"These are fun sessions when we explain how to turn different ideas into businesses. Everyone gets the chance to be a Dragon, like the television programme, and test our examples of pitches for business investment. This is a very practical and realistic way of learning important aspects of business. The sessions also include quizzes, finances and more - everyone gets their own information pack."
Cllr Ray Russell, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council said: "We are delighted with the response to the programme since it started in May. These workshops offer a chance for people to learn more about the benefits of self-employment before making a decision as to whether this is the right way forward for them."
