Communities That Work launch new Centre

A new centre for the Communities That Work project is being launched by the Rt Hon Paul Holmes MP.
The office, based in the shopping parade in Loundsley Green, will be officially opened at 10.30 am on Friday 22 January 2010. The day will be a chance for people to drop in and find out what the project is all about and to meet the team of support workers who will be based there.
Communities That Work (CTW) is financed from the Working Neighbourhoods Fund (WNF) provided through Chesterfield Borough Council and continues to deliver services in two wards - Rother and St Helens. Since April 2008 the project has supported over 500 people. This includes helping them to find jobs or taking up training opportunities.  The project also offers help and support in compiling CV's, help with job searches, completing application forms and interview techniques and support with health issues where they present a barrier to gaining or remaining in employment.  The project has successfully helped over 170 people into work.
The project, managed by Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust, has now been extended into Loundsley Green, which with many  people claiming work and health related benefits, can now gain one to one support from advisors who will be working in that community.
Sandra Johnson, Health Improvement Specialist and CTW Project Manager explained that having a service in the community not only provides a chance for local people to get help with job seeking but also to look at other issues that may be affecting their lives, such as health conditions. This approach may help a person move forward and enable them to  deal with other barriers.
The sort of help available includes CV preparation, help with job search, application form completion and interview preparation. Health issues can also be addressed such as smoking cessation, healthy diet and living guidance and help with managing health problems. Access to other services can be arranged for help with issues such as debt management and benefit advice.
The service is free to members of that community.

The address of the centre is Unit 3 Shopping Centre, Loundsley Green, Chesterfield S40 4RA. Refreshments will be provided during the day and the public are invited to come in and meet the team and find out more about the project and the help available. For more information Telephone 01246 347222
