Chesterfield to Honour Troops
Chesterfield is taking part in the first National Armed Forces Day to show support for the men and women who make up our Armed Forces Community. The day takes place on 27 June and will honour current serving troops and veterans.
Although this is the first Armed Forces Day, for the last three years there has been a Veterans Day, which has now been expanded to include current serving men and women and is now the Armed Forces Day.
Chesterfield Combined Ex Services Association and Chesterfield Borough Council have planned three events for the week 22 to 28 June 2009.
Monday 22 June 2009, 10.30am Armed Forces Day Flag Raising Ceremony. War Memorial opposite the Town Hall.
His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Adrian Kitch will be joining local veterans and cadets in raising the newly designed Armed Forces Day flag. The flag will be raised on a temporary flagpole by the war memorial and it will then be moved to the roof of the Town Hall where it will be flown for the remainder of the week.
A number of local ex service association standards will be on parade and for the first time will be the new Worcestershire & Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association standard.
Wednesday 24 June 2009, 1.00pm - 4.00pm, Display by Ex Service Associations and Local Service Units. Eastwood Hall, Rose Hill, Chesterfield S40 1LW
The public will be able to view a number of displays prepared by local Ex Service Associations, Service Welfare Organisations, 575 (SF) Field Squadron RE(V), Cadet Forces and Chesterfield Museum have prepared a very impressive display about Derbyshire Regiments (entrance free).
Local school children will be visiting to view the displays and to talk to veterans about their life experiences.
His Worship the Mayor will be presenting veterans badges to a number of our local ex service men and women.
Saturday 27 June 2009, 7.00pm - 11.30pm, 1940s night
A lively evening of 1940s entertainment and food for members of Chesterfield ex service associations.
Entrance ticket only (purchase from Rob Nash Chairman of the Chesterfield Armed Forces Day Working Group).
