Olympic stars host swimming spectacular

Olympic swimming stars, Ross Davenport and Nick Robinson-Baker, are to host a swimming spectacular weekend at the recently refurbished Queen's Park Sports Centre swimming pool in Chesterfield. Chesterfield Borough Council has organised the weekend of water action for Saturday 9^th and Sunday 10^th January and children and adults are invited to come along and either take part in the activities on offer or cheer on the participants from the newly revamped gallery.The weekend starts at 11am on the Saturday when Ross officially opens the new pool area. The Mayor of Chesterfield, Cllr Adrian Kitch will then take advantage of the new auto timer system when he sets the first race time in the pool. Ross, a Commonwealth Gold Medalist, will attempt to beat the Mayor's time and will race against members from the Chesterfield Swimming Club.The afternoon will have some fun relay sessions and a water rave between 2pm - 4pm.
On Sunday, local Olympic Diver, Nick Robinson-Baker takes the lead at 11am with a diving demonstration and will encourage children and adults to have a go themselves. In the afternoon there will be more fun with snorkelling, water polo and rookie lifeguard sessions. Cllr David Stone, Lead Member for Safe, Healthy and Active Communities said: "This is a great opportunity for people to come along and see what we can now offer from the pool. Swimming is one of those sports that can be competitive and fun and the range of activities we have planned for the weekend will hopefully inspire people to make much greater use of this fantastic facility that's right on their doorstep."
