The proposals were drawn up by Chester City Council after consultation with Dee Banks Special Needs School, The Bishops' Blue Coat C of E High School and park users. Chester City Council hopes to continue involvement with Dee Banks School throughout the construction phase of the project so the children are able to see their ideas being built onsite.

Chester City Councillor Eric Plenderleath, executive member for culture and community said: "I am delighted that further improvements will at last be made to the Sandy Lane Park, thanks to the generous grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

"Sandy Lane Park is a well used facility by children from all over the district, but I am pleased that the local community, and particularly the schools, have taken part in deciding what new features they would like and that we have been able to take their ideas on board".

The play area will be closed to the public for 10 weeks from February 16th 2009. The remainder of the park and car park will remain open as usual.

The Big Lottery Fund Children's Play Programme has already helped fund improvements at Westminster Park play area and Blacon Adventure Playground.
