Rosehill House Retaining Wall, carrying the unclassified U6168, Higher Kelly Road in Calstock, is to be strengthened.
The strengthening works will start on the 14 July 2009 and will last for approximately 10 weeks. The works have been designed to be carried out from the below the wall to minimise disruption to traffic and pedestrians for the duration of the works.
A 15 m length of the existing masonry wall located in the Calstock Conservation Area has been assessed and has been found to be of insufficient capacity to support current highway loading. The strengthening works comprise a masonry faced mass concrete buttress constructed in front of the substandard section of the wall. The leaning section of the masonry parapet will also be taken down and reconstructed with stonework to match the existing parapet.
Cornwall Council's term maintenance contractor CORMAC will be carrying out the strengthening works.
