Newquay Safe awareness campaign launched

Cornwall Council as part of a multi agency group - known as ‘Newquay Safe' is working to address the many complex and varied issues that Newquay is facing.

The Newquay Safe group launched an awareness campaign on 4 August 2009 to promote safe, sensible and responsible behaviour in Newquay. The short term campaign will run for August and is being promoted, amongst other ways, through posters in clubs and pubs, public toilets, on and in local buses, at Newquay train station and in Newquay Airport.

The ‘LOST your...' campaign is one of the many initiatives that the Newquay Safe partnership has already, and will continue to, put into place - many of which have been developed in response to what local people have said. A longer term campaign will be produced later.

Newquay Safe consists of two groups of partners:

A larger Reference Group to agree priorities and agree operational procedures A smaller Steering Group to plan and oversee future activities. Newquay Safe partners includes, amongst others: Cornwall Council, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, NHS PCT, DAAT (Drugs and Alcohol Team), the LSCB (Local Safeguarding Children Board), Visit Cornwall and Tourism Newquay.

The partnership is working hard to address the many complex and varied issues that the town, its residents and businesses are dealing with.

More information about the Newquay Safe partnership and initiatives is available by visiting our Newquay Safe pages:

Gill Steward, Cornwall Council Corporate Director for Communities officially launched the campaign, supported by Lance Kennedy - Cabinet member for Stronger Communities - and other Newquay Safe partners. The launch was also attended by the Chairman of the Newquay Town Residents Association.
