The Royal Cornwall Museum (which also houses the Courtney Library: Cornish History Research Centre) is a wonderful place to find out about Cornwall, its history and its cultural heritage. As well as having a changing programme of exhibitions, the museum holds collections of art ranging from old master drawings to works by artists in Cornwall still practicing today, a world famous mineral collection, Social History, Cornish archaeology - with a particularly strong bronze age collection, world cultures collections and an Egyptian gallery which includes the remains of the Priest Ast Tayef Nakht, the unwrapped mummy.

The museum is owned by the Royal Institution of Cornwall, a registered charity, established in 1818 for ‘the promotion of knowledge in natural history, ethnology and the fine and industrial arts, especially in relation to Cornwall'. This is still at the heart of everything it does today.

The museum is particularly well resourced for families with something to do whenever you visit. As well as family friendly events throughout the year, many of the permanent galleries have activities to help families and children explore the collections. There are toilets and café facilities on site and the museum and library are accessible for pushchairs and wheelchair users.

Admission to the museum is free.
