For decades, Beckenham Swimming Club has produced some of the country's leading swimmers who have performed internationally for Great Britain. These include Duncan Goodhew, Zara Long and David Bennett. It has also trained some of the best waterpolo players in the country.

Last year, Beckenham Swimming Club was the only London club to send one of its own to the Olympics in Beijing. Ellen Gandy, 16, reached the semi-finals of the 200M Butterfly, and has high hopes of competing again in London 2012.

But she is not alone. In the past five years, BSC has sent 2 swimmers to World Championships and 2 to the European Senior Championships, where one achieved a bronze medal. The club had one swimmer at the Commonwealth Games and 2 at the World Youth Championships. Five swimmers went to the European Junior Championships, bringing home 3 gold medals, 2 silvers and 1 bronze. Three went to the European Youth Olympics, achieving 9 golds and 2 silvers. Two swimmers won 2 golds at the World Schools Championships, and two were ranked 1st in the world for their age.

In the past five years, Beckenham swimmers have also won 22 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes at national championships. Five swimmers have been involved in British Swimming world class programmes, and 11 have been selected for the ASA London talent programme.

BSC swimmers have always excelled at the Kent County Championships and last year they won more than 100 gold medals, with countless silvers and bronzes. This year a record 65 swimmers are participating in the championships, and they are on target to beat that tally. And the Beckenham Swimming Club team have been North Kent Junior Champions for the past five years.

In April 2009, a BSC team will, for the first time in six years, take part in national championships in Sheffield involving the best 20 clubs in the country. And three swimmers will be participating in the forthcoming British Championships. The excitement is already building!

The club has also had countless members involved in the national water polo teams at different levels over the past 15 years.  Most recently Sean King represented the GB Junior Team in the European Junior Championships in September in Istanbul, the first time the team has qualified for the main junior championships. He then won his first Senior GB team cap in October 2008.

The swimmers have an outstanding and experienced coaching team who teach swimmers from their earliest strokes to podium performances.  The club's 350 swimmers work hard, training according to their age and ability at numerous pools in the area and competing at a level appropriate for each of them.

The BSC coaching team is led by Tony Beckley, who has been a world class programme coach for the past five years and is part of the British Swimming select coaches group. Tony has coached swimmers at the US Nationals; World Cup meets; the Mare Nostrum tour; the Chinese Nationals; the World Youth Games; and the European Junior Championships.
