A Bexhill woman who provided a breath sample of more than five times the legal limit has received a suspended prison sentence.
The 47 year old woman, of Springfield Road, Bexhill, was arrested when members of the public alerted police after she had driven her silver Nissan Almera the wrong way in a one-way street, parked badly and then appeared drunk as she visited Sidley post office on October 30. A breath test showed that she had 195 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - more than five-and-a-half times the legal limit.
On Monday last week (December 14), she appeared before Hastings Magistrates charged with drink driving and driving without a licence. She was sentenced to 16 weeks' imprisonment suspended for 12 months, banned from driving for three years and ordered to pay £65 costs.
PC Steve Dessouki-Harman from Sussex Police's Road Policing Unit at Polegate said: "This woman's breath test was one of the highest ever recorded in the country, let alone Sussex, and is utterly inexcusable. She has shown absolute contempt for the safety of other road users and we welcome the sentence that magistrates have handed down.
"Despite high profile campaigns by the Force and our partners in the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, there are those who still consider it acceptable to drive under the influence of alcohol and the results can be devastating. Offenders, such as this woman, will be robustly dealt with.
"Our drink drive message is simple - don't!"
