Convictions for drug offences in Worthing
Nine people have pleaded guilty in court to a series of drug offences following a large scale police initiative in Worthing to target the use and supply of class A drugs.
During Operation Karrimore in May this year, officers infiltrated five separate drug networks to gather intelligence and information. They also used test purchasing tactics to buy drugs on several occasions from a number of street dealers.
On July 29 officers conducted a 'strike phase' and carried out a series of arrests for supplying crack cocaine and heroin. All pleaded guilty to the charges and the majority have been sentenced at Chichester Crown Court, over the last two months.
Detective Sergeant Colin O'Hare, from Worthing CID, led Operation Karimore. He said: "These convictions send a very clear message that class A drugs use and supply will not be tolerated. Police will continue to target those that seek to supply crack cocaine and heroin to the streets of Worthing. Some of those convicted had been charged with only one offence of supplying but still received a custodial sentence. This shows the risk involved to anyone wanting to supply controlled drugs."
