Attempted murder investigation - police seek taxi passengers
Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a 28 year old man in Saltdean on 17th June 2009 are keen to trace six taxi passengers who may have vital information.
Police were called to Withyham Avenue in Saltdean at around 11.30pm following an altercation between three men outside Timor House. It is alleged the victim was chased along Nutley Avenue into Withyham Avenue before he was stabbed in the back seven times outside a residential property.
Gabriel Wood, 31, of Withyham Avenue has been remanded in custody charged with attempted murder and is next due to appear at court on 4th September 2009.
The victim and another man had travelled to Saltdean from Brighton in a taxi. Later on that evening, the taxi driver was alerted by a passenger that there was a knife and a spanner tucked down the back seat.
Police are keen to trace the following passengers from the two fares immediately after the incident:
* Two men who were collected outside the Revenge nightclub on the Old Steine, Brighton and travelled to Stanmer Park Villas.
* A group of two men and two women who travelled from the Old Ship Hotel on Brighton seafront to Upper Lewes Road. It was one of these women, who said her name was Josie, who alerted the driver that there was a knife in the car.
Detectives have yet to trace the weapon used in the attack and urge anyone with information to contact them. DS Vanessa Britton of Brighton & Hove CID would also ask these passengers to contact her on 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operaion Lavelle.
