Acorn nursery is Outstanding says Ofsted
Acorn Nursery, part of North Portslade Sure Start Children's Centre, has been given an outstanding rating by Ofsted.
The inspectors visited the children's centre nursery, run by Brighton & Hove Children and Young People's Trust, and were particularly impressed with the commitment and enthusiasm shown by management and staff, the one to one support for children with special educational needs or English as an additional language and the comprehensive approach towards the planning of children's activities events and experiences.
The report said that overall the quality of the provision is outstanding and children's individual needs are fully met by the commitment and enthusiasm shown by the management and staff. The nursery is extremely well led and managed and staff show real passion for their work and their commitment to improving services to children and their families.
The one to one support for children with special educational needs or those with English as an additional language is exceptional and offers a totally inclusive service. There are extensive systems in place for working in partnership with parents and other agencies to firmly put the child's needs first.
Play equipment is of a very high standard, there is a vast array of creative activities either pre-planned by staff or, more impressively, child inspired. Communication, language and literacy is a particular strength of the nursery and the interaction observed between all staff and the children is very warm and affectionate.
The comprehensive approach towards the planning of children's activities events and experiences is developed through a triangulation approach - parents, children and other key people are all involved in planning for each child.
Councillor Vanessa Brown, Brighton & Hove City Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said, "This is wonderful news for all involved in Acorn Nursery - staff, parents and children. It is recognition of the huge commitment and talents of the nursery staff and the importance that the council puts on high quality nursery provision for the city's children."
