"Sitting in the heart of the Swindon Railway Works Conservation Area, the English Heritage Headquarters and National Monuments Record Centre Archive buildings beautifully juxtaposition the old and new.

The original listed building, now fully occupied by English Heritage, once housed the design workshops that gave birth to some of the greatest locomotives produced in the era of steam whilst the addition of the Archive building has provided a highly controlled environment in which English Heritage preserve irreplaceable documents related to the historic environment.

Whilst these landmark buildings and content continue to attract attention from all corners of the country, it is the attention of the local pigeon population that has caused concern over the past months. The Archive Building has provided a perfect nesting environment for feral pigeons and the subsequent fouling of this important building was something that English Heritage could no longer accept.

Working in consultation with English Heritage, Prokill tailored a solution that would not only provide the required level of protection to ensure no further nesting or roosting took place, but that the aesthetics of the building were in no way compromised.

Before applying the control systems, the Prokill team returned the upper building panels and superstructure to their former glory and applied biocides to ensure that all pathogenic material was neutralized and safely emoved from site.

Prokill were delighted to be commissioned by English Heritage to resolve this long standing problem. Quite rightly, English Heritage set exacting standards for both the process of work and the final outcome and we are glad to have met their benchmark.

The job was executed in a timely manner and the end result is almost invisible to the casual observer. English Heritage now look forward to a pigeon free building."
