Belfast children taking to the blocks
Children across the city are getting on the starting blocks for the the third annual Belfast Schools Cross-Country event.
Winners will represent the city at the Northern Ireland Schools Cross-Country final later in the year.
Belfast City Council has teamed up with Belfast Education and Library Board to host the event, which gives pupils the chance to compete against each other to win the Belfast Schools Cross-Country Cup.
The first heat takes place in the Grove Park on Tuesday, 9 February with a second heat on Thursday, 11 February at Musgrave Park. Two other heats will follow before the grand final in the Ormeau Park on Monday, 15 March
Sports Development Officer, Paddy McGrattan, who also helps organise indoor athletics at Ballysillan and Avoniel Leisure Centres, said: "Athletics is becoming more popular as a sport for younger people. Children enjoy running and love trying to improve their times against themselves and others.
