Have a ball as Get Active Week kicks off with sporting activities for all
Take up a new sporting activity and get fit for summer with Basingstoke Get Active Week.
From Monday 29 June to Sunday 5 July, people in Basingstoke and Deane are being encouraged to get active and try their hand at a new sport or activity.
The ‘active' themed week is organised by Basingstoke Get Active, a partnership of organisations across sport, health and education which promotes sport and physical activity across the borough. It aims to encourage more people to be physically active, increase and enhance young people's participation in sport, promote a healthier lifestyle and encourage volunteering at local sports clubs.
This is the second year the week-long event has been organised and it is promising to be even bigger and better with local sports clubs and facilities opening their doors to everyone from beginners to the elite to drop in, take part and get active at taster sessions.
In addition to these taster sessions there will be Get Active Week passports at local sporting venues offering special discounts and incentives.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure Cllr Keith Chapman said: "Get Active Week is the perfect opportunity to get involved in a new sport, whether you're a beginner or a more accomplished sports person. If you're more interested in helping rather than participating, the week also aims to recruit more volunteers without whom our sporting clubs would struggle to exist."
Get Active Week can help residents find the right sport, exercise or physical activity which may improve health, confidence and quality of life. Basingstoke Sports Centre, the Aquadrome, Tadley Swimming Pool, Active Life Centre, Totally Tennis, Queen Mary's College Sports Centre, Basingstoke Volleyball Club, Shin Gi Tai- Basingstoke Martial Arts Academy, Basingstoke and District Table Tennis League and Basingstoke Netball Club are among the organisations involved and have some great discounts and promotions.
