Amersham School children plant for gold!

Amersham School children plant for gold!

Preparations for Amersham in Bloom were well under way this week with the planting of the signature flower beds.

Pupils from Amersham schools joined Amersham Town Council and the Mayor, Cllr Martin Phillips, to plant out their very own floral designs. The competition to design the winning flower beds was held in the winter. It was with great excitement that the children began to see their designs come to life.

Chestnut Lane School planted the signature flower bed at Woodside Road/Hyrons Lane accompanied by Rotarian, Chalmers Cursley and the Mayor. Sophia Harvey won the design for her School.

St Mary's C of E School planted the Boot and Slipper roundabout accompanied by Rotarians, Chalmers Cursley and Derek Bryant along with the Mayor. St Mary's C of E School also won the competition for planting on the junction of Station Road/London Road West. Chalmers Cursley, Allan Childs and Pat Armstrong accompanied the children. Designers were Thomas Fleetwood-Law and Amelia Moy.

Entries for the residents' competitions are now awaited and there are first prizes of £50 gardening vouchers sponsored by Van Hage Garden Centre and second prizes of £25 vouchers from Fox's Outdoor. The categories are: BEST Window Box/Hanging Basket; BEST Front Garden; BEST Business Premises; BEST Green/Enironmental Initiative; BEST School; BEST Allotment and BEST Community Garden.

Simply email your entry form to info@amersham-tc.gov.uk or post to Amersham Town Council, Deacon House, St Mary's Place, Amersham HP7 0UT - or phone us your entry on 01494 586892
