We offer term-time and summer holiday courses for children aged four to sixteen in 11+, English and Mathematics up to GCSE level.   Lessons are either individual or small group and take place in our well-equipped classrooms in Chesham which have interactive whiteboards and a computer for each child. 

Lessons are carefully planned to use a range of resources and are designed to make learning easy and fun.  Even in our group lessons, our pupil:staff ratio never exceeds 3:1 and our highly skilled tutors and teaching assistants motivate and encourage our students to realise their potential. We focus on the achievements each child makes and we have a rewards system of stickers, certificates and prizes which our pupils respond well to. 

We believe in working in partnership with parents and provide regular feedback via weekly progress report sheets which we are always happy to discuss with you. We also offer plenty of help and guidance as to how best to support your child at home, making learning a positive experience.

English and maths classes run throughout the term and during school holidays and we cater for children aged four to sixteen, up to GCSE level.  Whether your child needs a boost, lacks confidence or is preparing for an exam, we have something to offer.  Or maybe your child is bored or ‘coasting’ at school and needs a challenge.  In fact, whatever your child’s educational needs, Flying Start is your solution.

The 11+ tutoring can start a year before the exam, in Year 5 and we also offer term-time 11+ Foundation classes to children in Years 3 and 4.  In addition, we run a range of summer holiday revision courses.  The aim of these courses is to prepare the pupils fully for the 11+, ensuring they go into the exam relaxed, confident and knowing what to expect.  

We cater for 4-16 year-olds and our pupils travel to us not only from Chesham and Amersham, but many come from as far as Aylesbury, Hemel Hempstead, Tring and Berkhamstead.

Bucks Mother Wins Business Award

Sian Goodspeed, a former teacher from Chesham, has won an award for her entrepeneurial skills in setting up Flying Start Tuition, a classroom-based tuition service, offering individual and group lessons in English, maths and 11+ preparation for school children aged four to sixteen.  Mrs Goodspeed believes that Flying Start offers tuition with a difference.  "Lessons are planned using our dynamic learning programmes that aim to make learning fun and build pupils' self confidence.  We offer a unique service, combining technology with traditional teaching methods and a incorporating a range of learning skills and memory-boosting techniques to accelerate each child's progress."  Lessons are held after school, at weekends and in the holidays
at Copsham House, in Broad Street, Chesham.

Mrs Goodspeed set up the business 20 months ago, because she had a young daughter and was looking for flexibility in her work.  "I had previously been a class teacher for 12 years and I wanted to continue in the profession I loved as well as having time to devote to my daughter. I had been doing some private tuition from home and I could see the potential for a business
because I was getting regular enquiries from interested parents, who I had to turn away."

The finals of the competition, the West Herts Entrepeneur 2011, run by Viva Networking, took place at the Ramada Javis Hotel in Redbourn on Thursday 30th March, where the 4 finalists had to give a presentation to the judges before the winner was announced.  Mrs Goodspeed was delighted to receive the award, commenting, "It has taken a great deal of time and energy to get the business to where it is today but I have enjoyed every moment of it and receiving an award is a fantastic recognition of all that hard work."
